As the story unfolds, it gradually disproves the old adage, "You can tell a book by its cover." Prejudgments are reassessed, habits are evaluated and modified; in the midst of frustration and despair a troubled Church is renewed. Tribute singles out one woman whose public behavior and caustic tongue antagonizes most of her fellow worshippers, especially the "young preacher boy" intern assigned to her congregation. Covering little more than a year, it follows the day-to-day activity of the woman, the congregation, and the intern, revealing seemingly unrelated events that culminate when the young man discovers the source of his unimagined success. Tribute to a Thorn is a humble attempt to express the limitlessness of my gratitude for an encounter that changed my life and profoundly affected the fifty-five years of ministry that followed.
