When Johnson left office there were 605,000 American soldiers in Vietnam. This is a short and opinionated history of the Johnson years by someone who lived through them as a boy. There is a lot in here about the Election of 1964 and the decision-making process that went into escalating the war from 16,000 to 605,000. The author does not like Lyndon, but who ever did?
