There were several major ethnic groups living in East Harlem at the turn of the 20th century. In addition it will show how the various groups introduced forms of the social gospel. The book will also explain how the various groups were able to provide each individual with an identity which defined his or her role within the larger community of Harlem between 1880 and 1935.
