The story is told in a mysterious (allegorical), poetic, romantic, style using both modern and ancient literature. Almost as in Sherlock Holmes' investigative style, the young lady's quest is to find out more about Christ, who is her "date." He gives her clues and then she has to go home and find out more about him, by research. She meets Him daily, at their "Secret Place," and though she never sees him, she knows each day that he kept "their date."
