Swept away on a daring adventure to Texas during the Mexican Invasion of 1842, he finds his fortune, or rather, his fortune finds him. Rémi Rousseau is an ordinary young man who finds himself in extraordinary circumstances to which he must adapt if he is to maintain his hard-won position in society and establish himself as the patriarch of Prosperine, a struggling sugarcane plantation along the Mississippi River. Leaves of Cane is the second novel of the series.
