Both Jim and Susie shared a deeply emotional experience from their shared conversation on their first and second picnic. Consequently, Susie also had a strong physical desire to be committed and physically intimate with Jim. But, Jim, unlike his emotional war experience, did not have the same emotional experience with Susie yet and so he needed time before physical intimacy and commitment.
