Summer of '69 is a novel of the sixties. Two friends, Bob Balzak, an ex-Marine recently returned from Vietnam, and James Johnson, an incipient writer and recalcitrant opponent of the war, take their summer break from the University of Washington and travel to Mexico on an odyssey which takes them on the adventure of their lives, ultimately culminating at the consummate rock concert of their generation, Woodstock, where music, drugs and sex all merge to give them a caution and an inspiration for the future.
