The mysterious elder vampire, Lord Osiris Lyvantium, becomes aware of a magical grimoire that possess many secrets, some of which reveal a way the vampire can fulfil his ambitions. The question is whether the reluctant hero, Raven Tarohfyre, a human, will be able to fulfil a destiny appointed to him by a soothsayer, and thwart the vampire's dreams. All the while, trying to survive a war between kingdoms, wrestle with his growing affections for a girl he meets during his adventures and ultimately prevent his homelands, and entire world, from being changed in ways only true darkness can comprehend. The vampire will have to contend with a witch queen, and a human, in order to get what he wants. And the people that inhabit all the kingdoms, will have to contend with the reawakening of magick and face shocking revelations, to survive and find peace. Some things cannot remain dormant forever.
