The history of scientific thought in the west recognizes the origin of the idea of "natural law" with the pre-Socratics, Plato, and the Stoics. The legal interpretation of cosmic phenomena stretches back to the ancient Near East and can be found in Old Testament literature. This study taps into a number of important texts and formulates a new approach to the concept of "natural law" in antiquity. German description: Das wissenschaftsgeschichtliche Gedachtnis des Abendlandes erkennt die Ursprunge der Idee von 'Naturgesetzen' bei den Vorsokratikern, Platon und der Stoa. Die rechtsformige Interpretation kosmischer Phanomene reicht jedoch in den Alten Orient zuruck und hat auch Eingang in die alttestamentliche Literatur gefunden. Der vorliegende Band erschliesst und analysiert die entsprechenden Texte und formuliert so einen neuen Zugang zur Vorstellung von 'Naturgesetzen' in der Antike.
