Reseña del libro "Inevitability (en Inglés)"

Do you choose, or is the purpose of your life predetermined? That's the question examined, in-depth, by the novel Inevitability. On the surface, this is a story about teens becoming adults under the sugar-coated veil of a corrupt Camelot - one of the most compelling turning points in history. However, at its core, Inevitability is the conflict between darkness and light. Philip Roth's Indignation and the more recent reports centered on Edward Snowden examine the way spy networks and power cells annul your "given" freedoms and change lives. This book, Inevitability, postulates that this idea originated in 1776. With no way to win a revolution, America's revered Continental Congressmen compromised liberty by mortgaging the nation. The pact gave rise to a cult called Osiris; stealthy villains bent on controlling the American government anytime they chose. By 1962, Osiris had the country on a profitable path to a bloodbath in Viet Nam and would gladly kill a President to get there. This story, set in Pittsburgh, draws from influences consistent with the era: It's about hope and duty, drawing from Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls, and convoluted human relationships like the 1942 film classic Casablanca. "The Pill," Betty Friedan's Feminine Mystique, and Helen Gurley Brown's Sex and the Single Girl influenced youth in 1962-3 and, now again, in this story. You see, these were the seeds that set the tone for today's growing conflict between men and women. You have little say in the way your life turns out. You will learn, perhaps the hard way: I make your life happen anytime I need humans to help me reach my goal. That is: To stop Osiris. I live and move within the ether in unusual ways you cannot fully comprehend. I affect some lives more than others. People call me names like Accident, Fate, Fortune, and Providence. Most call me Destiny. If you learn but one thing from me, it should be this: If you expect to have any say in your future you must change the way you perceive and think. Your world is not the place you believe it to be! Read this book, and I will tell you a story, and then you will know why. In 1962, I had my eye on Katie McLaren: she was sweet-sixteen, from an affluent family, brilliant, stubborn, and fetching. With blossoming opportunities for women in President Kennedy's ill-labeled Camelot, she knew she could become anyone. Katie wanted her life to be meaningful - to do something of significance. But, what! Who would she become? More importantly, what forces would try to stop or misdirect her: Big government; social pressures; media influences; dumb luck? How about falling in love - would that derail her? Her teacher, Dr. Korsakov, once asked Katie, "How will you extract, from the clutter, your life; the only life that's most meaningful for you?" Katie replied, "I don't know, but I want to know." Perhaps, more important, how would Katie deal with Michael Hawkins, a boy with an irrepressible spirit who she couldn't resist?
