Reseña del libro "Game On!: Relations between English proficiency in students and L2 in Videogames"
In the following book, we looked to discover the relationship between the language found in videogames and the proficiency level of L2 students in developmental stages. This was motivated by the epistemological thought that gaming ignited the process of L2 acquisition. In this qualitative phenomenological, quasi experimental research, two surveys and a game play were applied to discover the relation between L2 proficiency level of students and the language in video games. The study was divided into three stages, a pre-survey for collecting demographical information, a video game which was played by the participants ("Planescape: TORMENT") and a post-survey inquiring direct questions about the level of the language of the game and the impact it may have by using it in class. 26 students participated with an age span of 15 to 45 years old of both sexes, and the scholar level were from high school to university. The geographical environment is set in Costa Rica, so some of the reference are related to the jurisdiction of this country. The exploration done by the categorization of the theoretical framework and the results showed by in the surveys proved that video games can be a useful tool to improve analytical and English as a foreign language skill.
