In 1921 when young Sedge Rountree slips away from his East Texas home he has no idea of the adventure ahead on his trek west. Friendly folks help him along the way but he hits trouble with moonshiners, a sneaky hobo, and even with the law in a crazy mix up. Then out on a West Texas ranch he has to fight to hold on to his new life and the girl he didn't even realize he was looking for. Sedge's nephew Travis has grown up in the rich grassland of the upper Texas coast. In 1957 he's about to graduate from high school when his father dies prematurely sending him right into ranch work. He has to prove himself as cowboy, as detective, and even as inventor when he makes a promising discovery. Ezell, Travis's son, fell in love with the mountains and deserts of far West Texas, and in 2004 he's cowboying in Presidio County. His sister-in-law is an innocent targeted by a drug cartel and now his wife has gone missing while running help to her across the border. He goes searching for her but runs smack into the evil of lawless men.
